Ng’eno inspects Mau restoration projects, engages communities on conservation

MFC-ICLIP Patron Dr. Eng. Festus K. Ng’eno has stepped up efforts to promote conservation and restoration of the Mau Forest Complex following a field visit to several sites where restoration and livelihood programmes are underway.

 

During the visit, Dr. Ng’eno toured Keringet Estate Primary School and Keringet Boarding Primary School, where he interacted with learners and encouraged them to take an active role in protecting the environment.

 

The engagements are part of the Mau Forest Complex Integrated Conservation and Livelihood Improvement Programme (MFC-ICLIP) environmental education and awareness component, which seeks to nurture a culture of environmental conservation among young people.

 

Keringet Estate Primary School is set to host the kick-off of the second edition of the Tree Growing Programme on October 3, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to increase tree cover and promote environmental stewardship.

 

 

Dr. Ng’eno also visited Marindas, where he met TELIS beneficiaries and stressed the need for communities to nurture and protect trees planted under the restoration programme.

 

At the Green Generation Initiative nursery, he inspected the ongoing propagation of one million avocado seedlings. The initiative is aimed at supporting landscape restoration while providing communities with sustainable livelihood opportunities through fruit production.

 

 

The Patron later toured the Kiboyet Forest Block in the Tulwet area, where he addressed local residents and inspected degraded sections of the forest earmarked for expanded restoration activities.

 

The planned restoration is expected to contribute to increased forest cover, improved biodiversity and ecosystem health, and enhanced protection of critical water catchment areas within the Mau Forest Complex.

 

The interventions are part of broader efforts under MFC-ICLIP to restore degraded landscapes while supporting communities living around the forest to adopt sustainable livelihood practices.
