Prof. Collins Odote has been reappointed as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Council of Legal Education (CLE) for a further three-year term, effective October 23, 2026.

The reappointment was announced through Gazette Notice No. 16723, paving the way for Prof. Odote to continue overseeing reforms aimed at strengthening legal education and training in Kenya.

During his previous tenure, the Council made progress in implementing its Strategic Plan 2023–2027, with a focus on regulatory reforms, quality assurance and improvements in the administration of the Advocates Training Programme (ATP) Examination.

Among the key developments was the preparation of the Draft Legal Education (Licensing and Quality Assurance) Regulations, 2026, and the Draft Legal Education (Advocates Training Programme) Regulations, 2026.

The proposed regulations were subsequently handed over to the Attorney-General for further consideration, marking a step towards strengthening the legal and regulatory framework governing legal education and training in the country.

Prof. Odote’s reappointment is expected to provide continuity in the implementation of ongoing reforms, strengthen stakeholder collaboration and support efforts to improve the quality and standards of legal education.

The Council said it remains committed to implementing its 2023–2027 Strategic Plan and fulfilling its statutory mandate of regulating legal education and training in Kenya, with an emphasis on excellence, accountability and quality assurance.
