Bomet County Scholar Hails President Ruto’s Development Agenda, Says Projects Will Transform Bomet.
By Festus Ronoh – Bomet County,
Bomet County scholar Dr. Nicholas Kirui, popularly known as DK, has praised President William Ruto for his development record over the past four years, citing major infrastructure and economic projects expected to strengthen the county’s economic growth.
Dr. Kirui said investments in road infrastructure, markets and healthcare facilities would improve connectivity, create business opportunities and raise the economic status of Bomet County.

Among the projects he highlighted are the Bomet–Itembe Airstrip, Kapkwen, Olbutyo and Siongiroi–Kamukunji (Nyamira) roads, which he said would improve transport networks and enhance trade within Bomet and neighbouring regions.
He noted that Bomet occupies a strategic position as a major transport corridor connecting several surrounding regions, making improved road infrastructure essential for the movement of people, agricultural produce and other goods.
Dr. Kirui also pointed to the planned economic initiatives, including the Kapkwen and Chebunyo Export Processing Zone (EPZ) markets, saying they could expand commercial activities, create employment opportunities and provide farmers and traders with better access to markets.
He further identified the proposed Chebunyo Level 5 Hospital as a significant investment that would strengthen healthcare services and support the area’s broader development agenda.
According to Dr. Kirui, the combination of improved roads, modern markets and enhanced healthcare infrastructure could position Bomet County for increased economic activity and improved livelihoods.
He said sustained investment in infrastructure and essential public services would be crucial in unlocking the county’s economic potential and strengthening its role in regional trade.
The remarks come amid growing attention on development projects across the South Rift region, with infrastructure, healthcare and market access remaining key issues in the county’s economic development debate.
