The Great Chepsaita Cross Country Patron Farouk Kibet, in partnership with Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni, led a highly successful medical camp on Monday in collaboration with the M-Pesa Foundation.
The camp, held in Chepkemel, provided free consultations across various specialties, including general health, eye care, dental services, and women’s health, positively impacting hundreds of residents.
Residents praised the initiative for bringing essential healthcare services closer to the community. Speaking to Kass Media, locals expressed gratitude, emphasising the camp’s role in enhancing community well-being.
More than 2,000 people attended the camp, with some arriving as early as 7 a.m., including Monica from Ngenyileel, who shared her relief, “I’m very thankful to have seen a doctor and received medicine I didn’t expect to get.” Kipkemboi Arap Chumo from Tapsagoi, Turbo, also expressed appreciation, thanking Farouk Kibet for facilitating free medical care in the area.
Hillary Kiplagat Arap Terer from Cheptonon shared a touching story about his ailing grandfather receiving treatment, while Joshua Kipnyango from Aldai, Nandi County, recounted his journey to the camp, “We brought a sick person yesterday. Thank you, Farouk and Safaricom, for the medical camp. It’s far, very far Kapseng’ere, we are bordering Kisumu, but we are heading back now to Aldai to share the good news.”
This year, the Great Chepsaita Cross Country expanded its impact beyond athletics by championing education under the theme Run for Education. Speaking to Kass FM, Patron Farouk Kibet announced a pledge of over 10 million shillings toward educational initiatives, cementing the event’s reputation as both a sporting highlight and a driver of transformative community change.
