Preparations Gather Pace Ahead of 11th Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme

Preparations for the 11th Edition of the Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme (KICP) are underway ahead of the event scheduled for July 10 and 11.
On Thursday, KICP Chairman and CEO hosted Chief Conservator of Forests Alex Lemarkoko for a reconnaissance and planning visit as organizers stepped up preparations for the annual conservation programme. The visit was conducted with the blessings of KICP patron and Principal Secretary for the National Treasury, Dr. Chris Kiptoo, who was engaged in budget matters in Parliament.

A major highlight of the visit was the launch of a modern biogas system at St. Agatha Mokwo Girls Secondary School. The facility, supplied by Kyoto Energy, a key partner of KICP, has the capacity to produce 300 kilograms of gas per month and can package surplus gas into cylinders for future use.
The project will also see biogas slurry processed into organic fertilizer through a specialized machine. KICP says the initiative is expected to be replicated in schools across the Kaptagat Forest ecosystem, helping reduce dependence on firewood while supporting ongoing forest conservation efforts.

The team also held discussions with Jimmy from Golazo on the design of the marathon route, one of the key activities lined up during this year’s programme.
The delegation later visited the tree-planting site at Kapkoi, where the Head of Public Service is expected to plant both indigenous and exotic tree species on July 10 as part of the conservation activities.

The final stop was Kaptarkok Primary School, the venue earmarked for the main celebrations of the 11th Edition of KICP. The event is expected to be presided over by the President.
As preparations continue, KICP has expressed appreciation to its partners, sponsors, stakeholders and members of the community for their support towards the programme. The organization says the collective effort remains crucial in protecting the Kaptagat ecosystem and advancing sustainable environmental conservation for future generations.
