The 2025 Athletics Kenya/Betika National Cross Country Championships Set for Eldoret this Saturday

The much-anticipated 2025 Athletics Kenya/Betika National Cross Country Championships will take place this Saturday, February 8th, 2025, at the Eldoret Sports Club, the heart of Kenya’s renowned “City of Champions.”

 

Barnaba Korir, Chair of Athletics Kenya’s Nairobi Branch, has urged fans and the athletics community to turn out in full force to support and celebrate the country’s best athletes.

 

“Eldoret is the home of champions, and we encourage all athletics fans to join us this Saturday to cheer on our athletes,” Korir said.

This year’s National Cross Country Championships promises to offer a unique experience.

 

For the first time, key races will take place in the afternoon, creating an exciting atmosphere for both athletes and spectators.

 

The afternoon schedule will also allow for entertainment and the opportunity to participate in a medical camp before the highly anticipated races begin.

 

Over  500 elite and upcoming athletes are expected in Eldoret on Saturday and in  a bid to further motivate athletes, Athletics Kenya has announced increased prize money for the winners, with substantial rewards across all categories.

 

According to a statement released by the federation, here are the prize breakdowns:

 

  • Senior 10km Races:

1st Place: Ksh 200,000

2nd Place: Ksh 130,000

3rd Place: Ksh 100,000

4th–10th Place: Prizes ranging from Ksh 70,000 to Ksh 10,000

 

  • Under 20 Categories:

Men’s 8km:

1st Place: Ksh 140,000

2nd Place: Ksh 90,000

3rd Place: Ksh 70,000

 

Women’s 6km:

 

1st Place: Ksh 140,000

2nd Place: Ksh 90,000

3rd Place: Ksh 70,000

 

 

Top 10 finishers in the under 20 categories will also receive additional prizes.

2km Loop Race:

1st Place: Ksh 50,000

2nd Place: Ksh 40,000

3rd Place: Ksh 30,000

 

The race categories for the event include:

  • Senior Men’s and Women’s 10km
  • Under 20 Men’s 8km
  • Under 20 Women’s 6km
  • 2km Loop Race (for both men and women)

 

This event will be live on KASS TV  on Saturday 8th February 2025
