I lost millions to my ex-boyfriend and agent —Marathoner Joan Rotich
Kenyan marathoner Joan Rotich has shockingly revealed how her ex-boyfriend and agent conned Ksh 11 million from her athletic winnings, leaving her in a terrible situation.
Joan, a veteran marathoner who represented Kenya in some of the most memorable athletics events, such as the Taipei Marathon in China and the Jakarta Marathon in Indonesia, now finds herself in a very horrible situation.
“The total money I won in those races was almost Ksh 11 million. I bought two cars for tours, the guy (her ex-boyfriend) used his details when we were purchasing and he later went away with it and dumped me,” Rotich revealed.
In a shocking revelation, Joan also claim that she build a big house for them only to be taken away by the boyfriend after he dumped her. “I also built a big house, thinking it was ours, but he took the house and everything,” Joan says.
Joan Rotich won a total of Ksh 1.6M in Qatar; instead of getting the money, her agent convinced her into depositing the money to his account only to vanish with the money.
“In Qatar, I won Ksh 1.6 million. The agent cheated us into depositing the money into his account. As we speak now, the guy is in Germany now. I have been trying to reach him, but he keeps telling me there is nowhere I’ll take him,” Joan says.
Athletics Kenya, through Barnabas Korir, Chairman Youth Development, while speaking to Kass FM, condemn the incident and call for speedy investigation.
