ABSA AT 100: Eldoret Club Turns Red As Bank Celebrates A Century In The City Of Champions
By Isaac Kogei | ELDORET,
It was swing, drive and a century of love in the City of Champions.
The lush greens of the Eldoret Club came alive today as ABSA Bank teed off its 100-year celebrations in style with the highly anticipated ABSA at 100 Eldoret Golf Tournament.
This was no ordinary tournament. It was a century in the making.
Exactly 100 years ago, in 1926, ABSA opened its doors in Eldoret – and for a hundred years, it has grown with the farmer, the trader, and the champion that Eldoret is known for.
A CENTURY OF LOVE FOR THE FARMER
Speaking during the tournament, ABSA Bank Managing Director Yusuf Omari said the celebration is all about giving back to the people who have banked their trust with them for generations.
“We are celebrating 100 years as a bank in Eldoret to show love to our customers, who are predominantly farmers. Eldoret has fed this bank with loyalty for a century, and today we are saying thank you the best way we know how,” said Omari.
And what a thank you it was – over 100 golfers drawn from across the North Rift battled it out for top honours, with finesse, flair and a touch of vintage ABSA red dominating the course.
FROM GREENS TO THE TRACK
But ABSA is just getting started.
If today was about golf, tomorrow is about grit.
The bank has lined up a massive 10km Run, 3km Run and a Fun Run right in the heart of Eldoret – a deliberate nod to the North Rift runners who have made this region the undisputed City of Champions.
“This is the home of world beaters. How do you celebrate 100 years in the City of Champions without running with the champions?” Omari added.
Winners of both the golf tournament and tomorrow’s run will walk away with tokens of appreciation – ABSA’s way of saying Asante for 100 years of unwavering support.
From 1926 to 2026 – 100 years of banking, believing, and building Eldoret. And the party has only just begun.
