Soin FC Extend Lead as Goalkeeper-Turned-Striker Seals Victory
JOSPHAT KEBUT
Soin FC tightened their grip at the top of Elgeyo-Marakwet County League Zone B with a narrow but crucial 1-0 victory over third-placed Valley FC, thanks to an unlikely hero—goalkeeper-turned-striker Gideon Kiplagat.
Deployed as a forward, Kiplagat repaid his coach cum captain Fabian Rutto’s faith by netting the game’s only goal in the 78th minute.
Kiplagat expertly chested down a pinpoint cross from Kibet, popularly known as “Mbappe,” before unleashing a stunning finish that sent the home fans into a frenzy.
His decisive strike not only secured three points but also widened Soin FC’s lead to four points at the summit.
With two games in hand against Kipriria and Kapkenda before the league’s second leg kicks off, Soin FC remain in a strong position to assert dominance in the title race.
Elsewhere in the league:
At Longarin Primary, Kabiemit FC made light work of Flax Eagles with a 2-0 win, while Kipriria FC edged out Kap’ngetik FC 2-1 at the Chepkorio Grounds.
