Sakaja Suspends Senior Planning Official Following EACC Arrest

By Shadrack Mutai | NAIROBI,

Nairobi Governor Sakaja Arthur Johnson has suspended County Chief Officer for Urban Planning Patrick Akivaga Analo following his arrest by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over alleged corruption.

In a statement issued on Friday, Governor Sakaja said the county government would fully cooperate with investigators, stressing that corruption has no place in public service and that all public officers must be individually accountable for their actions.

The governor emphasized that while every person is presumed innocent until proven guilty, his administration will not shield any individual found to have engaged in corrupt practices regardless of their rank or position.

As part of immediate measures, Analo has been barred from accessing his office, official documents, and county systems pending the conclusion of investigations. Director of Development Management Dominic Mutegi has been appointed to act in the role.

The county has also moved to overhaul its development approval system by reconstituting the Urban Planning Technical Committee. The new committee will include representatives from key professional bodies, regulatory agencies, resident associations, and utility providers. Nairobi County has also proposed the inclusion of an EACC liaison officer to enhance transparency in urban planning and development control processes.

In addition, all development approval processes have been suspended until the committee is fully reconstituted. Urgent matters will be handled by the County Executive Committee Member for Built Environment and Urban Planning, Patrick Mbogo.

The governor also announced that Ibrahim Auma Nyangoya will serve as Acting County Executive Committee Member for Finance and Economic Planning with immediate effect.

Sakaja assured Nairobi residents that county services will continue uninterrupted as investigations proceed, reiterating his administration’s commitment to integrity, transparency, accountability, and prudent management of public resources.
