National Parents Association Calls for Increased School Capitation

The National Parents Association Narok branch has urged the government to increase capitation to public secondary schools to ease the financial burden on parents and help schools operate effectively.
Speaking during the Rift Valley Region Secondary Schools Sports Association Games in Narok County, the association’s Narok County representative Gilbert Sang Bwogo, said, parents support school principals’ recent appeal for adequate funding to keep learners in school.
He noted that many schools are currently struggling with huge financial deficits due to delayed and inadequate government capitation, making it difficult to meet operational costs.
Sang warned that increasing school fees would only place a heavier burden on parents, many of whom are already facing economic hardships, while also increasing fee arrears in schools.
He appealed to the national government to enhance capitation to enable schools to run smoothly without transferring additional costs to parents.
“We are asking the government to increase capitation so that schools can operate efficiently without burdening parents with higher fees. This will support continuous learning and ensure every learner remains in school,” he said.
The parents’ representative emphasized that adequate government funding is essential for improving the quality of education and ensuring all learners have an equal opportunity to complete their studies.
