KCA University has hosted the third Association of African Universities (AAU) workshop, bringing together more than 100 university leaders, scholars and education experts to explore strategies for enhancing the global visibility and competitiveness of African universities.
Held at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies under the theme “Positioning Your University for Global Visibility,” the three-day forum focused on harmonising higher education standards, strengthening institutional branding, and leveraging technology to increase Africa’s presence in global academia.

Speaking during the workshop, KCA University Vice Chancellor and AAU Vice President for Eastern Africa, Prof. Isaiah Wakindiki, said African universities must move away from operating in isolation and instead adopt harmonised quality assurance systems and curricula to ensure qualifications are recognised across the continent. He noted that the initiative supports the African Union’s education agenda by promoting the portability of qualifications and strengthening higher education collaboration.
The forum also explored ways of modernising digital research repositories, strengthening alumni networks and building international partnerships to enhance the global reputation of African institutions. Delegates agreed that improving visibility goes beyond international rankings and should focus on ensuring African graduates and research are recognised and respected worldwide.

AAU Vice President for Western Africa and Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, praised KCA University for hosting the event, saying the workshop was designed to deliver practical solutions that will help African universities become more competitive globally.
The workshop concluded with a renewed commitment from participating universities to implement reforms that will strengthen collaboration, improve education quality and elevate the global standing of Africa’s higher education institutions.
