Drama As KNUT North Rift Cry Foul Over Mass Transfer Of Members To KUPPET
By Isaac Kogei | ELDORET,
There was drama during World Teachers Day celebrations at Moi Girls High School, Eldoret, as Kenya National Union of Teachers – KNUT members from the North Rift protested the alleged irregular transfer of their members to KUPPET.
Led by Wareng KNUT Branch Secretary Simon Tuwei, the teachers accused the Teachers Service Commission – TSC of secretly moving more than 15,000 KNUT members to KUPPET without their knowledge or consent.

Tuwei said the affected teachers are mostly Junior Secondary School – JSS teachers who are waking up to find themselves listed under KUPPET.
“We are being killed slowly. How do you transfer a teacher without their consent? This is illegal and we will not accept it,” Tuwei said.
The unionists threatened to storm TSC headquarters in Nairobi with demonstrations if the commission fails to return their members to KNUT.
During the same event, Commissioner Sharon J. Kisire, Vice Chair at TSC, dodged the burning issue and instead applauded teachers for their dedication and service.

On his part, KUPPET Executive Sec Uasin Gishu Elisha Maiyo defended the move, saying as long as they have members in their union, they are good to go.

Meanwhile, in a moment of pride and celebration, Beverline Langat, Principal at Kapsoya Secondary School, was feted as one of the best and most hardworking teachers in the region for her exemplary service and commitment to education.

The standoff now sets the stage for a fresh supremacy battle between KNUT and KUPPET in the North Rift.
