CS Ruku Welcomes Plan to Establish a State Lodge in Meru
By Robert Siele | KERICHO,
Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has welcomed the government’s proposal to construct a State Lodge in Meru, describing it as a demonstration of goodwill by the Kenya Kwanza administration towards the Mount Kenya region.
Speaking during an Annual General Meeting at Kaplelartet Comprehensive School in Kericho County, Ruku criticized opposition leaders from the Central Kenya region, led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, for opposing the project. He accused them of perpetuating the marginalization of other parts of the Mount Kenya region.

The CS argued that areas such as Meru and Tharaka Nithi have been denied equitable development opportunities since independence compared to other regions within the larger Mount Kenya bloc. He maintained that the proposed State Lodge would help address historical development imbalances.
Ruku further praised the leadership of President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, saying their administration has transformed the country through various development initiatives. He expressed confidence that the government would secure a second term owing to its development record.

To enhance accountability in the management of public resources, the CS announced the introduction of a new payment system for government employees aimed at improving oversight across state agencies. He also directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to probe 13 government agencies allegedly linked to the loss of KSh6 billion in unaccounted public funds.
During the event, Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot called on security agencies and local administrators to intensify efforts against illicit brews and drug abuse in Kericho County. His sentiments were echoed by Kericho Woman Representative Beatrice Kemei, who attributed the rise in insecurity to the increasing prevalence of drugs and illicit alcohol.

Leaders present, including Soin/Sigowet MP Justice Kemei, used the occasion to rally support for the government, citing ongoing infrastructure projects and other development programmes they said have contributed to the country’s transformation.
