Call on School Management to Hold Conversations with Learners
By Festus Ronoh, Bomet County
School managements have been urged to embrace dialogue with learners as a way of preventing school unrest, which has recently been witnessed in various learning institutions.
Speaking after a church service at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Nyaga, Bomet Central, Bomet Central Member of Parliament Richard Kilel called on school administrators and teachers to give students an opportunity to express their concerns freely.
“I want to call on teachers and the entire school management to engage students in dialogue whenever issues that require urgent attention arise,” said Kilel.
He also urged church leaders to organize prayer sessions for schools, noting that incidents of unrest often occur when national examinations are approaching.
“We also urge our churches to pray for our schools because such incidents normally occur when national examinations are about to start,” he added.
Also present was Dr. Michael Bongei, who has expressed interest in the Bomet gubernatorial race. He called on parents to maintain open communication with their children both at home and while they are in school.

“Parents, a large percentage of your child’s behaviour is shaped by the upbringing they receive at home. Let us talk to them while they are at home, and it is also important to keep in touch with them through their teachers when they are in school,” said Bongei.
Dr. Bongei further cautioned students against engaging in acts of school unrest, emphasizing that such actions carry serious consequences that can negatively affect their future.
He urged learners to uphold discipline and seek peaceful ways of addressing grievances through the available school leadership structures.
