Athletes from across the region converged at the Governor’s office in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County, to collect their BIB numbers for the much-anticipated Great Chepsaita Cross Country.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, December 7, in Chepkemel, Chepsaita, Turbo, Uasin Gishu County.
The event’s Competition Director Kennedy Tanui, speaking during the BIB issuance, highlighted the significance of the exercise in marking the final preparations for the race. “We are here in Iten to ensure athletes from this region, Baringo, and its environs have easy access to their running numbers,” Tanui said.
He added that specific groups, such as senior citizens aged 70 and above and children aged 5-7 years, will have the option to collect their BIBs on race day.
In an exercise conducted by Athletics Kenya, participants were required to present identification: birth certificates for those under 18 and national IDs or passports for those over 18 to get their BIBs.
Tanui also noted that coaches could pick up BIBs on behalf of children aged 15 and below, provided they submit the necessary documents for verification.
The BIB distribution continues on Tuesday at the Eliud Kipchoge Complex in Kapsabet, moves to Eldoret Sports Club on Wednesday, and wraps up in Chepsaita on Thursday and Friday.
With the countdown officially underway, it’s all systems go for the second edition of the Great Chepsaita Cross Country, a prestigious Gold Label event that is set to draw top talent from across the region.
