Star Striker Ogam Named LG/SJAK Sports Personality of the Month
Tusker FC and Harambee Stars forward forward Ryan Ogam has today been named the LG / Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) Sports Personality of the Month (SPOM) for December 2024.
The 20-year-old, in his first season in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF PL), is the league’s leading top scorer, netting13 times and contributing more than half of his team’s 23 goals. In December, he scored six goals to propel the former league champions to second place in the 18-team league.
“Ogam is just at the beginning of his career, but he is already making a great impact. This is the kind of talent that the SPOM was created for and we are proud to recognize this young player today,” said LG’s Managing Director for East Africa, Dongwon Lee.
To win the LG/SJAK SPOM, Ogam edged out Olympics 5,000m and 10,000m champion Beatrice Chebet who broke the World 5km record on December 31, 2024 in Barcelona.
Other nominees for the award included Makueni Women Representative Rose Museo, who won the East Africa Inter-Parliamentary Games People Living With Disabilities (PWD) darts title in Mombasa.
Also up for the award were the Nairobi City Thunders duo of Garang Ding and Albert Adera, who guided the team to becoming the first Kenyan side to qualify for the Africa Basketball League (BAL).
Robert Mcligeyo, who won the 2024 Kenya National Chess Championship (KNCC) unbeaten, and Kenya’s national golf team captain winner of the last leg of the Kenya Golf Championship (KGC) last leg in Nyali, Mombasa, also stood out, as did Bernard Koyoko, who won his maiden Kenya Scrabble national title; World Half Marathon champion Sebastian Sewe Kimaru, who won the Valencia marathon on his 42km road race debut; and Wahome Mutahi for his exploits in winning the East and Central Africa FIM Motorcross Challenge at Vipingo Ridge in Mombasa.
