Uasin Gishu Governor Race: Bitok Leads Bii and Buzeki in New Poll

Tourism Principal Secretary Amb. Prof. Julius Bitok has taken the lead in the latest Politrack Africa poll on the 2027 Uasin Gishu gubernatorial race.

 

According to the survey released in August 2026, Bitok commands 37.3 per cent support, placing him ahead of incumbent Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim, who has 25.9 per cent.

 

Businessman and two-time gubernatorial aspirant Zedekiah Buzeki Kiprop Bundotich comes third with 18.7 per cent, as the race begins to take shape ahead of the 2027 General Election.

 

The poll places David Kemei Rotuk at 8.4 per cent, while Gideon Kipngetich Nyokosei also records 8.4 per cent. Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Uasin Gishu Chairman Willy Kenei trails the field with 2.0 per cent.

 

The survey further indicates that 1.4 per cent of respondents remain undecided, while 0.4 per cent support other candidates.

 

Bitok, who currently serves as the Tourism Principal Secretary, is seeking to build on his extensive experience in government, while Governor Bii is expected to defend his seat for a second term.

 

Buzeki, a prominent businessman, is also seeking to make another attempt at capturing the county’s top seat after previously contesting the gubernatorial race.

 

With Bitok currently leading, the figures could intensify competition within Uasin Gishu as political alliances and campaign strategies begin to take shape. The county is expected to attract significant political attention given its strategic importance in Rift Valley politics.

 

However, the poll only provides a snapshot of voter preferences at the time of the survey. Candidates will have opportunities to gain or lose support as campaigns intensify, political alliances are formed and voters assess their records and policy proposals.

 

Politrack Africa says the survey was conducted at a 95 per cent confidence level, with a reported margin of error of ±5 percentage points.
