Narok County Sports Chairman Calls for Increased Government Funding for School Sports
ALBERT TANUI
Daniel Koech Kamaliza, Chairman of the Narok County Primary Schools Sports Association and head of Kaptembwo Comprehensive School in Angata Barikoi, Transmara South, has urged the government to increase funding for sports activities in schools.
Speaking to Kass Sports at his school, Koech highlighted that the current government capitation per child is insufficient to cover all sports activities, from zonal to national levels.
He called for a review of the funding to ensure it meets the needs of school sports programs across the country.
“We appreciate the government for the capitation funds, but we request an increase so that we can better nurture the sports talent abundant in our region,”
Koech said. “Many students lack proper sports uniforms and equipment, which hampers their performance. Additionally, we urge the government to consider building a stadium that will help improve the physical training of our learners.”
Koech, who confirmed that Narok County is home to a wealth of sports talent, encouraged parents to provide ample opportunities for their children to develop their abilities to the fullest.
The chairman also shared that the county’s sports competitions, which recently kicked off at the zonal level, will be held in Emurua Dikirr, while the regional competitions are scheduled to take place in Bomet County.
