Kericho County Assembly has taken a significant step toward the expansion of Kericho Town by approving the Chelimo/Kevoko Local Land and Physical Planning Report.

Speaking to Kass Digital, Hezron Ngetich, Chairman of the County Assembly’s Lands Committee, hailed the approval as a pivotal moment for Kericho.

“This decision was long overdue. The President’s intervention during his recent visit to the county helped accelerate the process. We are now on the path to achieving meaningful development,” Ngetich said.

The report outlines the allocation of 828 acres of land for the expansion of Kericho Town. It also prioritizes the resettlement of squatters, providing a sustainable solution to a long-standing social issue.

According to Ngetich, the proposed development includes the construction of various government projects, with a notable focus on establishing a Special Economic Zone.

“The Special Economic Zone will accommodate a drug manufacturing company, among other ventures, which will significantly boost Kericho’s economy and create employment opportunities. This is a game-changer for our county,” he noted.

Residents and stakeholders have expressed optimism about the potential impact of the expansion. “This project will transform Kericho Town into a modern urban hub while addressing historical challenges of landlessness among squatters,” added Ngetich.

With the assembly’s green light, Kericho County is now set to embark on the implementation phase, marking the beginning of an ambitious journey toward urban transformation and economic growth.
