Former Emgwen MP and Marathoner Elijah Kiptarbei Lagat has passed on

Former Chesumei MP Elijah Kiptarbei Lagat has passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Eldoret. Until his death, he served as a board member of the National Campaign Against Drug Abuse Authority.

Lagat first entered Parliament in 2007 after being elected on an ODM ticket to represent Emgwen Constituency. Following the split of Emgwen, he became the first legislator for the newly created Chesumei Constituency in 2013, this time under the Jubilee Party.
Born on June 19, 1966, Lagat was not only a politician but also a celebrated athlete. He rose to global fame after winning the 104th Boston Marathon in the year 2000.
