By Sylvester Ronoh   Students from Emining Technical Training Institute in Baringo county have employed technology to transform a women-led honey businesses through digital marketing.   The women engaged in beekeeping and honey selling in arid areas of Baringo are now experiencing a surge in sales, thanks to a new digital marketing initiative developed by students from Emining TTI.     For many years, the women have been selling their honey along the Nakuru - Kabarnet road, struggling to attract customers and often ending the day with little or no income. However, a group of students from Emining TTI has created an online platform named TasteBaringoHoney, aimed at connecting the women to broader markets and boosting their sales.   Speaking to Kass Digital, Winnie Birir and Ahmed Ambetsa — both second-year marketing students — said their goal was to provide a sustainable digital solution to a long-standing problem.     “Baringo produces some of the best honey in Kenya, yet many women are unable to access better-paying markets,” said Birir.   Winnie Kirui, a beekeeper and trader, welcomed the initiative, saying it has opened up new opportunities. “Selling manually along the roadside has been tough. This online platform has given us new hope,” she noted.   Ajira Digital Officer Elias Rotich commended the students, saying the digital skills they’ve acquired are making a real impact in their community. “This is a clear example of how technology and youth innovation can uplift grassroots businesses,” he said.     Emining TTI Principal Jacob Korir applauded the partnership with Ajira Digital, which has equipped ICT students with practical skills to tackle local challenges. “This is what education should be about — finding solutions for community development,” he added.   The initiative is already showing promising results, with honey orders coming in from beyond the region, giving local women a better shot at financial independence and growth.
