MCAs Back Aaron Cheruiyot’s call for Transparency in Narok
By Albert Tonui
A section of Members of Narok County Assembly have faulted their Governor Patrick Ntutu who recently said Kericho Senator and Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot should not meddle in the affairs of the county government.
Speaking in Narok West, the MCAs who include Mogondo’s Kipsang Mibei, Mosiro’s Mike Lolkeso, Mara’s Kipngeno Chepkwony, Ezekiel Kosgei of Ilkerin and Samwel Towett from Ololmasani, the county legislators said Cheruiyot has a duty to defend devolution and nobody should hinder him from calling out corrupt leaders in any county including Narok.
While in Narok East recently, Cheruiyot challenged Governor Ntutu to explain to the nation how he has used billions of shillings that his government has been receiving from the national treasury arguing the county government has little to show in terms of development.
Ntutu was angered by Majority Leader’s sentiments saying ”a stranger should not lecture us on how we should operate our county”.
According to Kipsang Mibei, the county government should be transparent and accountable arguing that there is massive corruption in the county.
”Narok county resources are not distributed equally to all areas. The governor offers jobs and development tenders to his relatives and we need an explanation. Nobody should question the Majority Leader when he asks the hard questions.”
On his part, Mosiro MCA Mike Lolkeso said Cheruiyot is not only a Senator but Majority Leader in the Senate and he is free to visit and oversight all counties in Kenya.
”Nobody should try to stop Cheruiyot from traversing this county. Aaron, you are free Aaron to visit Narok at any time. Ask on our behalf how our resources are used. We suspect that there is huge graft in our county and we need answers, not threats and insults” Lolkeso said.
The sentiments were seconded by others MCAs including Samwel Towett, Ezekiel Kosgei and Chepkwony Kipngeno.
