Government to Build 25 New Stadiums to Nurture Youth Sports Talent
By Tom Chepsoi | Baringo,
The government has announced plans to construct 25 new stadiums across the country as part of a broader strategy to promote sports development and nurture talent among the youth.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Kabarnet Stadium in Baringo Central, Defence Principal Secretary Patrick Mariru said the projects will be undertaken by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports. He noted that Kabarnet Stadium is among the facilities earmarked for construction and is expected to be completed within the next nine months.

The PS reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fulfilling President William Ruto’s pledge to build at least one modern stadium in every county. He revealed that the Ministry of Defence, working jointly with other government agencies, is set to commission eight new stadiums across the country next week.
Sports Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi said the Kabarnet Stadium will have a seating capacity of 10,000 and will be designed to host multiple sporting disciplines, including football, athletics, and other community events. He added that the facility will also include business stalls to enable young people to engage in small-scale entrepreneurship during sporting events.

Mwangi emphasized that the stadium is expected to boost local talent, stimulate economic activity in Baringo County, and position Kabarnet as a regional sports hub.
The stadium development programme is part of the government’s wider agenda to invest in sports infrastructure, identify grassroots talent, and provide safe, modern facilities for athletes and communities across the country.
