A fire broke out early Tuesday morning, destroying several businesses and residential structures in Jerusalem, at the outskirts of Eldoret town, Kimumu Ward.
The 5 a.m. blaze, the latest in a series of fires at the popular business center, razed stalls and temporary buildings, leaving behind significant losses.
County firefighters managed to contain the inferno after it had already destroyed multiple business premises.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Chelilim and Kimumu MCA Sarah Malel visited the site to assess the damage. Governor Chelilim extended his sympathies to those affected and urged patience as investigations into the cause of the fire continue.
“I appeal for patience from the business owners and tenants as we work to determine the cause of the fire and explore ways to support those affected,” he said.
The property is reportedly owned by a renowned Kenyan marathoner and the cause of the fire remains unknown and is under investigation.
