Stanbic Kenya Foundation launches digital learning centre at ACK Kiamuringa School in Embu County

The Stanbic Kenya Foundation has today officially launched a state-of-the-art Digital Learning Centre at ACK Kiamuringa School in Embu County. As part of the initiative, the Foundation has donated 30 computers to establish the school’s first fully equipped ICT laboratory, aimed at boosting digital literacy, enhancing the quality of education, and opening economic opportunities for local youth.
The newly established laboratory will immediately serve the school’s population of approximately 200 students and 23 teachers. Crucially, the facility has been structured to serve as a shared community resource. Outside of regular school hours, the ICT lab will be accessible to local youth and community members, offering a vital hub for digital skills training, online learning, and preparation for digital-economy jobs.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Head of Stanbic Kenya Foundation, Mercy Githanji emphasized the critical role of technology in bridging the educational and economic divide in the country.
“At Stanbic Kenya Foundation, we believe that digital literacy is no longer an option, but a fundamental prerequisite for success in the 21st century. Our investment in ACK Kiamuringa School is an investment in the future of Embu County. By equipping this school with the computers, we are not only enriching the classroom experience for 200 students and supporting their teachers but also opening a gateway of opportunity for the entire community. We are passionate about empowering young people with the digital tools and skills they need to actively participate in the modern economy and improve their employability.”
The initiative aligns with Stanbic Bank Kenya’s broader corporate social investment strategy, which champions education, entrepreneurship, and job creation under its driving national purpose: “Kenya is our home, we drive her growth.” By fostering partnerships with local educational institutions, the Foundation seeks to democratize access to technology and drive sustainable development from the grassroots level.
Welcoming the donation, Mr Joseph Mwaniki , Principal ACK Kiamuringa School, noted that the launch marks a historic milestone for the institution.
“We are deeply grateful to the Stanbic Kenya Foundation for this transformative donation. Previously, our students had limited exposure to practical computer lessons. This new ICT laboratory changes everything. It elevates our capacity to teach STEM subjects, prepares our candidates for a digital world, and gives our dedicated teachers modern instructional tools. Furthermore, by opening this facility to our local youth, ACK Kiamuringa School becomes a centre of hope and economic empowerment for the wider Kiamuringa community.”
Since 2021, the Stanbic Kenya Foundation has worked with partners to equip women, youth and MSMEs with relevant 21st-century digital skills. Through the Future ni Digital platform, learners continue to access training across basic, intermediate and advanced digital skills, contributing to more than 250,000 Kenyans trained since 2019.
By empowering grassroots communities with hardware and digital learning infrastructure, the Stanbic Kenya Foundation continues to support the Government of Kenya’s national digital masterplan, which aims to elevate digital literacy and establish community-driven tech hubs to create jobs and foster local innovation.
