LG Electronics (LG) East Africa, in partnership with its main Kenyan distributor Opalnet, has reinforced its commitment to cultural engagement and community partnerships by sponsoring the Korea Sports Day held in Nairobi.
The event was organized by the Korean Society in Kenya under the auspices of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Kenya. It brought together members of the Korean community, corporate partners, and invited guests to celebrate Korean culture through sports and social interaction.

Beyond cultural celebration, the event served as a strategic platform for strengthening business, diplomatic, and community ties between LG, the Korean Society in Kenya, and the Korean Embassy, further positioning LG as a socially responsible and culturally connected brand in the Kenyan market.
As part of the sponsorship, LG mounted an interactive exhibition showcasing a range of its premium home appliances, including the latest OLED and QNED televisions, refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers, and microwaves. The company also displayed its broader portfolio of smart home solutions such as built-in cooking appliances, portable Bluetooth party speakers, and soundbars highlighting LG’s innovation, performance, and reliability.
A key highlight of the day was a live smart-living demonstration conducted in collaboration with Safaricom, LG’s long-term technology partner. Powered by Safaricom’s 5G Wi-Fi connectivity, the demonstration showcased how LG home appliances can seamlessly connect to the internet, offering a glimpse into the future of smart, connected homes.
Speaking during the event, KH Jeong, Product Director for Home Solutions at LG East Africa, said LG believes innovation must go hand in hand with meaningful relationships.
“Our partnership with the Korean Society in Kenya and the Korean Embassy reflects our commitment to supporting the Korean community while sharing LG’s vision of smart, connected living,” he said.
The Korea Sports Day also featured traditional and contemporary Korean cuisine, creating a relaxed and engaging atmosphere that celebrated Korea’s rich cultural heritage.
Young Moon Choi, Chairman of the Korean Society in Kenya, welcomed the partnership, noting the importance of corporate support in promoting cultural unity.
“Events like the Korea Sports Day play a vital role in bringing our community together. We appreciate the support from LG and Opalnet, whose partnership greatly contributed to the success of this celebration and to strengthening ties within the Korean community and with our partners in Kenya,” he said.
