KVDA to Rehabilitate Chemeron Dam at a Cost of Ksh 400M

Chemeron Dam in Baringo South is set for a major facelift after 34 years of neglect.

The Principal Secretary Kello Harsama from the State Department for ASALs and Regional Development said the 1982 Dam constructed during the era of the late President Daniel Toroitich arap Moi, will undergo desilting and restoration at a cost of Ksh 400 million.

According to PS Harsama, the project will directly benefit over 10,000 families and open up 6,000 acres of land for irrigation, boosting agricultural productivity and local livelihoods.
In a multiphased project that spreads for eight months, KVDA at the state department of ASAL and Regional Development Basin including Lake Victoria Basin will implement the three decade Dam start of with Ksh 100 million towards initial desilting and preparation workmanship and in the second trench of 300M will complete the remaining works and infrastructure including tanks and laying out pipes to schools and hospitals around Kimalel location and Koiriema locations.

According to KVDA Director Reuben Chepsongol, Chemeron Dam rehabilitation marks a significant step in addressing water scarcity, enhancing climate resilience, and fostering peace in the region in Marigat Municipality.
Immediate areas to benefit from Chemeron Dam rehabilitation include Koriema, Kimalel, and Endao irrigation schemes upper zones around Kimalel, Patkawanin, Kibingor, Sabor, Buiwon and Marigat Town
