KCB Attack Strengthened as Namutira Returns for Kenya Cup Volleyball Clash

KCB Women’s Volleyball Team is set to bring a powerful offensive game when they face Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) on Friday in the inaugural Kenya Cup Volleyball Tournament.

 

Their attack will be further bolstered by the return of star attacker Juliana Namutira, who has recovered from an ankle injury.

 

 

Namutira, who was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) during last season’s playoffs, has been sidelined but is now back to reinforce coach Japheth Munala’s squad.

 

The Kenya Cup Volleyball Tournament, a five-month-long event focused on nurturing talent and elevating the sport, has seen KCB in Pool B alongside fierce rivals Kenya Pipeline, KDF, and Kenya Army.

 

Coach and Players Optimistic Ahead of KDF Clash

 

Speaking ahead of the tournament, KCB head coach Japheth Munala commended his team’s performance in the third leg of the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) league and expressed confidence in their momentum.

 

“My players gave their all and stood out after their exemplary performance on the court. I believe we will maintain the same focus and drive as we take on KDF in the Kenya Cup Tournament,” said coach Japheth Munala.

 

Namutira, who joined KCB in 2023, is equally excited about her return, expressing her eagerness to contribute to the team’s success.

 

She said: “I honestly feel much better after my injury. I hope I will help the team to win against KDF. Traditionally, KDF has always played well whenever we face them, so we expect a tough much.The girls are equal to the task and I believe we can kick off the Kenya Cup competition with a win.”

 

KCB’s Lineup for the Clash

 

Libero Carren Jelagat, who recently transferred to KCB from KDF, is expected to feature in Friday’s match at Nyayo Stadium.

 

Young talents Fridah Boke and Marlene Terry will also be in action, alongside seasoned stars Mercy Moim, Belinda Barasa, Edith Wisa, and Shirleen Maiywa.

 

Currently, KCB sits fifth in the KVF standings behind Kenya Pipeline, Prisons Kenya, DCI, and Postbank.
