Over 1,000 Kids to Compete in the 5th Edition of Ngelel Tarit Kids Cross Country

Over 1,000 children are set to participate in the fifth edition of the Ngelel Tarit Kids Cross Country on Thursday, which will take place at Kipsinende, Kipkorgot, in Uasin Gishu County.
Race Director and Patron, Richard Metto, confirmed that all preparations are complete, with expectations of even higher participation this year. “We are ready and just waiting for the athletes to arrive. The field has been marked, BIB numbers are ready, and this edition will be bigger and better, with an increase in participants, especially children,” said Metto.
Registration will begin at 6AM and BIB numbers will be distributed before the race kicks off at 9AM.
Metto, a renowned coach from Kaptagat training camp, also praised Sabatia Eye Clinic for providing free eye screening and treatment to the public on Wednesday. and added that Racecourse Hospital will provide further medical services during the event on Thursday, including hypertension, diabetes, mental health support, and general consultations.
Brimin Kipruto, former Olympic and World Champion in the 3000M steeplechase, urged parents to bring their children to the event. “This is a great opportunity for kids to showcase their talent. I encourage parents to invest in their children’s education and talents,” Kipruto stated.
Race Chairman Noah Chirchir highlighted the growth in participation this year and thanked Athletics Kenya for including the event in its official calendar. “We are grateful to Athletics Kenya. Special thanks go to President Jackson Tuwei and Youth Development Director Barnaba Korir for their dedication to fostering young talent at the grassroots level,” Chirchir said.
The event features six categories for boys and girls aged 9-15, with race distances ranging from 500 meters to 2 kilometers. The elderly race will include four categories for men and women aged 40-56 and above.
World record holder and 1500M/5000M sensation Faith Kipyegon is the Race Ambassador.
