Chalan Foundation, Kenyatta University partner to Equip young people with Essential Life Skills
By Samson Kurgat – Nairobi
Kenyatta University and the Chalan Foundation have signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance life skills and values education, aiming to better prepare young people in Kenya and beyond for education, employment, and leadership.
The agreement pairs Kenyatta University’s academic and research capacity with the foundation’s hands-on experience in schools and communities. A central driver of the initiative is HERI Africa, the university’s Research Chair on Life Skills and Values Education, which will serve as a bridge linking academic research directly to community interventions.
Under the partnership, the two organizations will conduct joint research, test innovative educational approaches, and translate findings into policy and practical solutions for youth development.

Chalan Foundation Founder Margaret Koskei highlighted that the collaboration will build a strong evidence base to refine programmes and shape youth policy.
The ceremony was attended by key leaders from both institutions, including Kenyatta University Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation, and Outreach) Prof. Caroline Thoruwa, HERI Africa’s Prof. Nyerere, Chalan Foundation Board Chair Festus Terer, Acting COO Sally Keiyo, and Governing Council member Diane Siboe.
