BREAKING: Dawn Fire Razes Dormitory at Hill School Eldoret – 340 Students Escape Unhurt

Panic gripped Hill School in Eldoret early this morning after a fierce fire broke out in one of the school’s main dormitories at around 5:00 AM.

 

According to preliminary reports, the dormitory that went up in flames houses approximately 340 Form 3 and Form 4 students.

 

In what many are calling a miracle,  no injuries have been reported. All the students were already in their classrooms for early morning preps when the inferno started, narrowly escaping what could have been a catastrophic tragedy.

 

Thick smoke was seen billowing from the school compound as the alarm was raised.

 

A multi-agency emergency response team led by the Head of Region, North Rift and the County Coordinator for Uasin Gishu, alongside the Police, Uasin Gishu County Fire Brigade and brave community members, rushed to the scene and managed to contain the fire before it spread to other buildings.

 

The Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) is currently on the ground, providing much-needed Psychosocial Support (PSS) to the traumatized students and conducting a rapid needs assessment to determine the extent of the damage and the immediate needs of the affected learners.

 

The cause of the fire is yet to be established, with investigations underway.

 

Parents have been urged to remain calm as the school management and authorities work to establish the full extent of the loss, which is believed to include personal belongings, uniforms, and bedding worth hundreds of thousands of shillings.

 

This incident comes at a time when schools are preparing for national examinations, raising concerns over the welfare of the affected candidates.
