IEBC Now Fully Constituted Following Swearing-In of Chairman and Commissioners

Erastus Ethekon has officially been sworn in as the new Chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The appointment marks a new chapter for the electoral body amid ongoing efforts to enhance transparency and credibility in Kenya’s electoral process.#

 

Ethekon, a legal expert, took the oath of office together with six other commissioners before Chief Justice Martha Koome, promising to uphold the integrity and independence of the commission.

 

In his inaugural address, Ethekon emphasized his commitment to ensuring free, fair, and credible elections. “My priority is to restore public confidence in our electoral processes and to work diligently with all stakeholders to uphold the rule of law,” he stated.

The appointment follows months of intense back and forth between various parties and a rigorous vetting process by Parliament.

 

IEBC is now fully constituted, 25 months to the next general elections set to be held in August 2027.

 

As the country prepares for the much awaited general elections, all eyes will be on Ethekon to deliver on his promise of transparent and accountable electoral processes.

 

Among the top tasks that await the new commissioners is the organization of by-elections in various wards and constituencies across the country which fell vacant after their former holders lost their lives
