Tatu City has officially launched its After-School Artificial Intelligence (AI) Program under Tatu Reach, the city’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiative. The launch coincided with the graduation of the first cohort of students, who successfully completed a 13-week pilot course in front-end web development and artificial intelligence.

The innovative program, designed for learners aged 14–15, introduces students to digital literacy and coding fundamentals, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and real-world applications through capstone projects. The inaugural class featured 20 students from Tatu Primary School, a public institution within Tatu City, who gained hands-on experience in coding, creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking.

“At Tatu City, we are preparing our community for the jobs of the future,” said Solomon Mahinda, Executive Vice President, Tatu City. “Our After-School AI Program equips young learners with digital skills that will enable them to participate in tomorrow’s economy. With Tatu City emerging as East Africa’s data centre hub, we want the surrounding community to be ready for the opportunities that will arise right here at Tatu City.”

The graduation ceremony was attended by officials from the Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy (MoICDE), reaffirming the Ministry’s mission to promote digital skills, innovation, and access to technology as key drivers of Kenya’s socio-economic transformation.

Through the After-School AI Program, Tatu City continues to empower local communities by nurturing young talent and creating pathways toward a digitally inclusive and sustainable future
