Six Killed, Four Injured as Lorry Rams into Motorbikes and Pedestrians in Kipsitet

By Robert Siele, KERICHO, KENYA,

Six people were killed and four others left seriously injured after a lorry lost control and crashed into motorcycles and pedestrians at Kipsitet trading centre in Kericho County on Tuesday night.

The tragic incident sparked panic among traders, who rushed to rescue victims trapped beneath the vehicle.

According to Soin Subcounty police commander Lawrence Kisini, the lorry veered off the road at high speed, with no headlights on, striking several motorbikes and people on their way home. Four victims died instantly, while two others succumbed while being rushed to hospital.

Witnesses faulted poor lighting in the centre, saying the absence of street lights contributed to the accident. They called on authorities to install lights to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

The bodies of the deceased were moved to Kericho County Hospital, where the injured are also receiving treatment. Police have since launched investigations into the crash.
