Rigathi Gachagua Launches New Political Party Ahead of 2027 Elections
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a new political party called the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) on May 15, 2025. The launch took place in Lavington, Nairobi, after six months of consultations following his impeachment in October 2024.
Gachagua stated that the party was created to provide a new political platform, especially for the Mt Kenya region, which he said lacked a representative vehicle after his exit from government.
The DCP is focused on promoting better leadership, addressing governance challenges, and listening to the needs of ordinary Kenyans.
The party plans to include temporary officials from various counties and prioritize national representation. A key part of its strategy is youth inclusion, with Gachagua announcing plans to appoint a Generation Z deputy party leader to represent young people in leadership.
He also expressed interest in consulting with opposition leader Raila Odinga to learn how to build a strong and enduring party structure. The Democracy for the Citizens Party aims to position itself as a serious alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections with a strong focus on citizen voices and national unity.
