Marakwet East Landslide Tragedy
By Shadrack Mutai | Nairobi, Kenya,
Tragedy has struck Marakwet East. At least 21 people have lost their lives following a devastating landslide that swept through several villages overnight.

Speaking at the scene, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen confirmed that over 30 people are still missing, with families anxiously waiting for updates.

Rescue Efforts
Search and rescue operations have been temporarily paused for the day and will resume tomorrow.
A joint team from the Kenya Defence Forces, National Police Service, humanitarian organisations, and local residents will continue the mission to find those unaccounted for.
Medical Support
So far, 25 people with serious injuries have been airlifted to Eldoret for specialised treatment, while others with minor injuries are receiving care locally.

Relief Operations
Murkomen says preparations are underway to deliver food and non-food items to affected families.
Military and police helicopters are on standby to deliver the supplies.
Safety Advisory
The CS is urging residents living near seasonal rivers or areas prone to landslides to move to safer grounds immediately to prevent further tragedy.
“We thank all organisations, individuals, and government agencies, including the county government, for their swift response and cooperation,” he said.
