Long Jail Terms for Convicted Murder and Manslaughter Suspects

Bomet High Court has handed down tough sentences to five individuals involved in murder and manslaughter cases, signaling a stern stance on violent crime in the region.

In the judgment, Justice Julius Ngarngar sentenced Edison Kipkorir Yegon to 30 years in prison for the murder of Benard Cheruiyot at the Youth Farmers’ Centre in Bomet East. The incident occurred in 2016 following a misunderstanding during a social gathering.
Benard Chepkwony, a resident received a 20-year sentence for the manslaughter of Joseph Koech in 2018. His charge was reduced from murder to manslaughter before sentencing.

According to a postmortem done by Dr. Philip Blasto, the deceased was found with a metallic object lodged in his head.
Two other individuals were also sentenced to 10 years each. Peter Kiprono Sigei from Keneni, Kapkimolwo in Bomet East, was convicted for the murder of Kenneth Kosgei. Patrick Kipkemoi Bett, from Kimawit in Sotik, was sentenced for the murder of Kevin Kiprono.
In a separate case, Vicoty Terer, also known as Judy Wahu, was sentenced to 7 years imprisonment for the killing of Weldon Terer, though the motive behind the crime remains unclear.

Justice Ngarngar noted with concern the increasing number of murder and land-related cases in Bomet County, stating that the region ranks among the highest in such cases compared to other counties.
