Koisagat Elders Slam Leaders Over Youth Violence at Political Events

Koisagat, Transmara East – Elders from the Kipsigis Council in Koisagat have strongly condemned recent incidents of political violence involving youth, accusing local leaders of fueling the chaos through bribery and incitement.
In a rare intervention, the elders summoned young people from rival groups who violently clashed during President William Ruto’s visit to Emurua Dikirr Technical Training Institute (TTI) in Mogondo earlier this month. More than five youth were injured in the fracas, with some sustaining deep sword wounds.

“Such violence is a disgrace, especially when it occurs during the President’s visit,” said the council’s coordinator, Maritim Arap Kayla. “We were shocked to learn that several youths had to be hospitalized after fighting each other over political rivalries.”
The elders warned that if political leaders continue to promote hostility instead of tolerance, the consequences could be deadly, especially as the country gears up for the next general elections.
The violent confrontation pitted youth allied to area MP Johana Ngeno against those supporting Mogondo MCA Kipsang Mibei. Both leaders have since condemned the violence.
In the aftermath, five youths were arrested and charged with assault at the Kilgoris Magistrate’s Court. They were released on bond and cash bail pending their hearing in June.
Kayla criticized politicians alleged to be bribing youth to disrupt political gatherings. “It is shameful for leaders to use a few coins to turn young people into weapons of war. This must end immediately. Leaders must respect life and promote peaceful coexistence.”
The elders urged both youth and leaders to uphold peace and unity as national campaigns begin to heat up.
