Kericho MCAs Demand Answers Over ‘Unfair’ Recruitment of Health Officers and Clerks
By Robert Siele,
Some Members of Kericho county assembly have raised concerns over the recent hiring of 176 public health officers and revenue clerks, citing lack of transparency in the recruitment process by the Kericho county public service board.
Led by Kapsuser ward MCA Peter Kemoi, the MCAs said they have officially written to the board demanding an explanation on the manner in which the exercise was carried out.

“I have written a letter to the public service board to provide a written explanation on how the recruitment was done. This is an injustice to my ward and my people”. Said the MCA.
According to Kemoi, this is a violation of article 232(1) of the Constitution of Kenya and more so to the residents of his ward who elected him.
The legislator also claimed that regional balance was not considered in the recruitment process. This was supported by his counterpart from Kipkelion Town ward Anthony Ruto who asked Kericho county Governor Dr. Erick Mutai to intervene.

‘’The only public health officer employed from Kipkelion ward does not come from the ward. I have contacted PSMB on the same for appropriate action. The Governor should know that we have been denied our rightful share.‘’ Said Ruto.
The MCAs called for immediate recall of the recruited staff until ‘due process’ is followed.
‘’Every ward in the county was supposed to get four employment opportunities. In my ward, out of four only one is a genuine resident while the rest cannot be verified”. Said Kemoi.
‘’Í challenge the public service board to prove that the people they employed are from Kapsuser. The recruited staff should be recalled.” added the Kemoi.
Attempts to contact Board secretary Charles Chirchir were unsuccessful, as he neither answered our calls nor responded to messages.
