Kenya Marks World Rangers Day at Dundori Forest

Kenya has joined the rest of the world in commemorating World Rangers Day, with the national celebrations held at Dundori Forest in Nakuru County. The event was led by Kenya Forest Service (KFS) Board Chairman Titus Korir and KFS Commandant Mohammed Mohammed.

In their remarks, the two leaders reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering harmonious coexistence between forest rangers and communities living near forested areas. Mr. Korir emphasized that grazing within forest reserves, particularly in areas with newly planted trees, remains strictly prohibited to protect ongoing reforestation efforts.

 

However, he clarified that local residents are allowed to harvest grass for livestock feed, provided they do so in a way that does not harm the environment.

 

 

The ceremony also served as a solemn tribute to the 16 KFS rangers who lost their lives in the line of duty, honoring their sacrifice in the service of conserving Kenya’s natural heritage.
