Residents of Saimo Soi Ward in Baringo North Constituency have received 500 Galla bucks from the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA), boosting livestock productivity and resilience in the insecurity-prone region.

The launch event at Chebarsiat was officiated by NDMA CEO Hared Adan and attended by Baringo North MP Hon. Joseph Makilap. The program aims to improve the genetic quality of local goat breeds and enhance livelihoods in arid and semi-arid areas

Makilap said the distribution is part of a broader plan to supply 1,000 high-quality Galla bucks across the constituency. The initial batch has been allocated to four sub-locations in Bartum Location: Kipcherere, Taimon, Koroto and Akorayan.

He highlighted the importance of improved breeds in boosting yields, increasing climate resilience, and raising household incomes. He also assured residents of Sibilo and Yatia Locations that the second batch is being procured and will be delivered soon.
NDMA CEO Hared Adan reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to supporting pastoralist communities with climate-smart livestock solutions. He noted that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance food security and economic stability in ASAL areas.
Saimo Soi MCA Michael Cherombor described the program as transformative for local farmers. He urged beneficiaries to castrate local male goats to ensure effective crossbreeding and maximize impact.

Baringo Deputy Governor Eng. Felix Kipng’ok welcomed the initiative, noting that it aligns well with the upcoming Maoi abattoir, which is nearing completion. He said the program would help improve livestock quality, ensuring better returns for farmers once the abattoir becomes operational.
The initiative is part of ongoing government efforts to promote climate adaptation and strengthen livelihoods in Kenya’s ASAL regions, particularly in areas affected by recurring insecurity.
