Christine Kibet Kabon: A Woman on a Mission to Save the Youth

By Gladys Yator

Christine Kibet Kabon is not just talking about change, she is living it. A Director at Lapfund and a relentless community mobiliser, Christine has made it her life’s work to reach young people trapped in alcoholism, drugs, and silent struggles that sometimes end in suicide.

“These young people carry generations within them,” she says, her voice steady but urgent. “It is our responsibility to act. Often, all they need is someone to listen.”

Her words are not empty rhetoric. Every weekend, Christine sees lives cut tragically short, young men and women whose potential could have transformed families and communities gone because no one extended a helping hand in time.

The problem is no longer confined to the uneducated or unemployed. Even educated youth are slipping through the cracks, ensnared in a web of despair, pressure, and isolation.

Christine’s response is bold and hands-on. She has launched a county-wide campaign called Sema Ikutoke, a call for young people to speak up, share their struggles, and find hope. She gives them platforms to express themselves and suggest solutions. Some of the youth have voluntarily gone through rehabilitation programs she facilitates, stepping out of darkness into possibility.

Christine knows this is not a mission she can accomplish alone. She has made an urgent appeal to parents, churches, and professionals to become active participants in guiding and nurturing young people. Families, faith spaces, and support networks, she insists, are the first line of defense in saving lives.

Beyond advocacy, Christine is now channeling her passion into politics. She is running for the Women Representative seat, hoping to transform grassroots interventions into structured policies and programs that can reach every corner of the county.

Her message is clear, inspiring, and impossible to ignore. Let us all be agents of change. Every conversation, every act of listening, every small intervention can make the difference between life and death. The youth of today are the torchbearers of tomorrow, and Christine Kibet Kabon is lighting the path.
