Call on Dairy Farmers to Embrace New Technology
By Festus Ronoh, Bomet County
Dairy farmers in Bomet have been encouraged to embrace new technology in order to realize high milk yields.
Speaking during a field day organized at his farm, Paul Kipsiele Koech, a renowned 3000 metres bronze medalist, urged residents of Sotik to source improved and quality dairy breeds.
Kipsiele enlightened dairy farmers who attended the event, saying that dairy cows must be well taken care of for them to produce high yields.
“If you want to get high yields from your dairy cow, then you must invest in your cow. The more you give to your cow, the higher the yields,” said Kipsiele.

He decried the high cost of animal feeds, saying that many potential dairy farmers are afraid to venture into dairy farming due to the rising prices of feeds.
Another dairy farmer, Samwel Kirui, applauded the move by athlete Kipsiele to educate residents on dairy farming. He also called on the government to consider subsidizing animal feeds.
“When you compare the price of a litre of milk and the cost of animal feeds, it is not favouring the farmer,” said Kirui.
