Safaricom-sponsored golfer Mohit Mediratta produced a moment of brilliance to claim victory in the opening leg of the PGK Equator Tour second edition, held at Vetlab Sports Club.

Mohit headlined the four-day tournament with a composed and consistent display, capped by a sensational hole-in-one in a tightly contested field. He finished with a total score of 284 (4 under par), to secure top spot on the corporate leaderboard. The battle for second place was equally intense, with Mutahi Kibugu, Samuel Chege, and Jastas Madoya all tying on 287 after closely chasing the leader throughout the competition.

Speaking after his win, Mohit described the hole-in-one as a rare and unexpected highlight that boosted his confidence. “I am excited to have won the first leg. The hole-in-one came as a complete surprise, it’s a rare moment for any golfer, and I am truly happy about it. The course was quite challenging and the competition was tight, but I managed to stay focused,” said Mohit.

The opening leg attracted 52 of Kenya’s top professional golfers, including six debutants and three female players making the transition from the amateur ranks—highlighting the tour’s growing depth and inclusivity.

With the first leg concluded, attention now shifts to Thika Sports Club for the next round in what promises to be a competitive nationwide series. The tour will span 11 courses across the country as it seeks to elevate the standard of professional golf in Kenya and prepare players for major international events, including the Magical Kenya Open and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
