KCB Names Strong Squad for African Club Championship Title Push in Cairo

KCB Lionesses has named a strong 14-player squad as they prepare to depart for Cairo, Egypt, ahead of the 2026 Africa Women’s Club Championship set for April 11–24.

 

The Kenyan bankers, two-time continental champions, are targeting a return to the summit of African volleyball after falling short with a fifth-place finish in last year’s edition. They last lifted the trophy in 2022, adding to their historic 2006 triumph.

The squad comprises of Mercy Moim, Juliana Namutira, Sharleen Maywa, Deborah Jesang, Belinda Barasa, Mildred Cherop, Pauline Chemtai, Sharon Serem, Lincy Jeruto, Josephine Kataa,⁠ Josephine Wafula,⁠ Malyne Terry, Esther Mutinda, and Fridah Boke. The team will be without captain Edith Wisa, who misses the tournament due to personal reasons.

 

KCB will be under the guidance of Head Coach Japheth Munala, assisted by David Kinga and Technical Director Paul Bitok. “We have had good preparations, and the players are motivated heading into this tournament. The competition will be tough, but we are ready to give our best and fight for a strong finish,” noted Assistant Coach, David Kinga.

 

The Championship will feature 24 teams from 14 countries including defending champions Zamalek SC, Al Ahly SC, and Alexandria SC. Kenya will be represented by KCB, Kenya Pipeline and DCI.

Speaking during the team’s flag-off, KCB Group Director of Marketing and Communication Rosalind Gichuru said the tournament presents a key opportunity for players to showcase their talent on the continental stage and reinforce Kenya’s standing in African volleyball.

 

KCB head into the championship on the back of solid domestic form and will shift focus back home after Cairo, where they are scheduled to face Kenya Defence Forces in a Kenya Cup quarterfinal clash. In the national league standings, the side sits fourth with 10 points behind DCI, Post Bank, and Kenya Prisons.
