The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting quality, safety, and innovation in Kenya’s industries through the proposed Standards (Standards Levy) Order, 2025.

During an awareness forum held at the Jacaranda Hotel in Nairobi, KEBS Managing Director Esther Ngari underscored that the new framework marks a bold step toward modernizing Kenya’s standardization landscape to match the pace of global and technological change.

Addressing stakeholders drawn from manufacturing, trade, government, and consumer sectors, the Managing Director highlighted that KEBS continues to play a pivotal role in driving the nation’s progress through quality assurance and integrity.

She noted that the 1990 Standards Levy Order, which has guided Kenya for more than three decades, was instrumental in establishing a structured and competitive trade environment. However, with the dynamic shifts in technology, digital commerce, and global supply chains, there is now a pressing need for a framework that responds effectively to emerging realities.

The proposed Standards Levy Order, 2025 is therefore designed to make Kenya’s standards ecosystem more relevant, transparent, and transformational — aligning it with modern trends while safeguarding public interest and economic empowerment.

The forum aimed to enhance understanding among stakeholders about the objectives, structure, and benefits of the proposed levy order. Participants were sensitized on how the framework seeks to strengthen collaboration between government, industry, and the public to ensure fair, effective, and inclusive implementation.

The awareness initiative also sought to encourage a culture of excellence, where all sectors appreciate the importance of standards as the foundation of national development and competitiveness. Through active engagement, KEBS continues to ensure that standards work for every Kenyan by promoting accountability, trust, and quality in both local and international markets.

The Standards Levy Order, 2025 represents more than regulatory reform — it embodies a shared vision of prosperity and progress. It seeks to create a modern, efficient, and sustainable system that supports Kenya’s economic ambitions and enhances competitiveness in regional and global markets.

Transformation requires strategy, patience, and unity, and KEBS is committed to steering this process with the participation and goodwill of all stakeholders. The awareness forum reinforced this collaborative spirit, highlighting the importance of collective responsibility in achieving the national quality agenda.

The event concluded with renewed optimism and commitment from participants to support KEBS in advancing this transformation journey. It underscored that raising standards is not just a technical process but a national mission anchored on quality, innovation, and integrity.

By embracing the Standards Levy Order, 2025, Kenya takes another step forward in building a future defined by excellence, resilience, and global competitiveness.
