Eradicating Illegal Structures in Bomet County Towns.

Bomet County, through the Department of Urban Planning, has unveiled major plans to eradicate illegal structures in all towns within the county.
Speaking at the Bomet town bus station during an inspection tour with departmental officials, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Urban Planning, Mr. Joseph Kirui, said many developers had violated regulations in putting up buildings.
“As a county, we are committed to ensuring that every developer follows the law when establishing structures in our towns. Unfortunately, many have not,” said Kirui.
Bomet Municipality Chair, Mr. Davies Langat, confirmed that all structures built illegally—especially those on road reserves—will be demolished in line with the law. His remarks were supported by the Chief Officer for Urban Planning, Mr. Issa Yahin Yarrow.
“There are some buildings within Bomet town that encroach on public land such as road reserves, and we are going to act on them,” said Langat.
“We will ensure that all illegal structures are done away with. We cannot allow towns to operate with investors putting up buildings using fake allotment letters,” added Yarrow.
Kirui further assured the business community that the county government is committed to creating a conducive environment for investment. He revealed that the county will soon launch the official Bomet town bus stage as part of efforts to streamline urban development.
On the other hand, traders from Bomet market decried the dilapidated state of the town bus stage, noting that persons living with disabilities continue to face challenges due to the lack of adequate facilities to cater for their needs.
