The National Police Service Commission has announced sweeping changes to its recruitment process in a bid to stamp out corruption and boost transparency.
Speaking after a public participation forum in Nakuru County, Chief Executive Officer Peter Leley assured Kenyans that the upcoming recruitment drive will be fair, just, and free from favoritism. The meeting was part of ongoing efforts to draft new regulations governing the registration and appointment of police officers.

Leley said the commission has embraced technology to streamline the process, including the introduction of online applications and a data-driven formula to ensure recruitment slots are shared equitably among counties.
In a bold anti-graft move, the National Police Service Commission has also scrapped medical tests at recruitment venues—long viewed as a loophole for bribery—shifting them to later stages of the process.
“Our commitment to fighting for the rights of police officers and ensuring a merit-based system remains unwavering,” Leley said, promising continued reforms until “the system works for all.”
