Newly Created Narok Amalo Sub-County to Bring Services Closer to Residents

By Nicholas Rono

Residents of Sogoo Ward, Sagamian, Melelo, and parts of the greater Mara region are set to benefit from the newly established Narok Amalo Sub-County which was recently launched by President William Ruto during his visit to Narok.

The new administrative unit, created by the Ministry of Interior, brings the total number of sub-counties in Narok to nine, with the aim of improving access to government services and enhancing local development.

Narok County Commissioner Kipkech Lotiatia, while speaking at the site of the ongoing construction of the sub-county offices, called on area residents to ensure they have the necessary personal documentation to take advantage of upcoming employment opportunities and public services.

“We are urging residents to acquire essential documents such as national ID cards and birth certificates. These are not only important for identification but will also be key when applying for jobs that will be created here,” Lotiatia said.

He added that the presence of a sub-county office will bring critical government services closer to the people, saving them the cost and time previously spent traveling to Narok town.

“This is a milestone in decentralizing services. Residents of Sogoo, Melelo, Sagamian, and Mara will no longer have to travel long distances for basic government services,” Lotiatia emphasized.

Construction of the Narok Amalo Sub-County headquarters is currently underway and is expected to host key departments, including civil registration, social services, and administration. Once operational, the sub-county office will also serve as a hub for coordination of development projects and security operations in the region.

Local leaders and residents have welcomed the move, saying it marks a turning point in service delivery and inclusivity for historically underserved areas.

“This is a big win for us. We’ve waited for years to be fully recognized administratively,” said Samuel Ntutu, a resident of Sagamian.

“Now, our voices will be heard and our needs better addressed.”

The establishment of Narok Amalo Sub-County signals a commitment by the government to strengthen grassroots governance and bring services closer to the people.
